Business economics

Give overhead and profit a place in every quote.

$
A share of business costs such as insurance, software, advertising, phone and storage that are not direct job expenses.
%
The percentage your payment provider takes from the customer’s payment. Use your actual fee; it is a percentage of the selling price, not your job costs.
%
The share of the selling price you want to keep after the entered job costs and payment fees. A 30% margin means keeping $30 of each $100 charged. It is not the same as adding 30% to costs.
$
Your smallest worthwhile service call, even for a tiny job. This is a true price floor. Urgency is added first, then any discount is limited so your final quote never falls below this minimum.
%
An optional extra allowance calculated as a percentage of direct job costs. It is added to allocated overhead. Use it only for expenses you have not already counted.

Optional adjustments

Start with your costs. Then set your price.

Add the labor you will actually use, including your own time. Allocate equipment wear, chemicals, travel, and a share of business overhead. A job can bring in cash and still lose money if these costs are missing.

A 30% margin is not a 30% markup.

With $300 in costs, 3% processing, and a 30% target margin, required revenue is $300 ÷ 0.67 = about $447.76. Adding 30% to cost produces $390 and misses the margin target. This calculator rounds the final quote up to the next cent.

Your quote still needs a defined scope.

Confirm the areas to be washed, water access, stain treatment, exclusions, and applicable sales tax. These calculations use your inputs, not market averages or a guarantee of profit.
